i have to use the glow plugs each an everytime i start my fractor.even after i get through mowing my lawn i still have to use glow plugs. is that normal for a b6000e or is something wrong with the starting of it -- thanks

I don't have a lot of experience with that model but many of the older diesels required more glow plug use then they do today. The designs weren't what they are today and they do require more consistant use of the glow plugs. Loss of compression is one of the main reasons for more use of the glow plugs when starting. Often people send them off to be repaired from a leaky head gasket and have the valves done without checking to see if the valve protrusions are correct and then the engine lacks the compression to start properly. When a engine has a lot of hours it will also need to have the glow plugs working to assist in starting. Hopefully someone who owns one will verify the need to use them everytime you start. ....

I had a B6100E for 20 years and always had to use the glow plugs to start. When it was hot it would start without but with more cranking and smoke. It was better to always use the glow plugs and minimize the unburned fuel. ....

I have noticed on the older machines that we have trade that glow plug use is almost always required. Mainly from what Art has stated do to lack of compression. It will not hurt to use them all the time it will save on the battery and started from excessive cranking. Even after a rebuild I know that until about 50 to 75 hour you have to glow plug all the time until the rings seat in to the cyl. walls. ....

I used to have an old Kubota L245 (I believe it was an early 80's model) that was the same way. It was horrible to start if left outside and cold. Even when I started parking it in my heated basement; it required about 20 to 30 seconds worth of glow plugs prior to each start. Once warmed up it fired right up but that was just the nature of the beast. Once I purchased and read up in the owners manual; that was what the directions recommended. I quickly adapted and was not an issue. ....

My B-8200 (20yrs old) starts with about 2 seconds cranking....although I have ALWAYS used the glow plug...and would not even thinking of not doing so....The colder the outside temp., the longer I use preheat....but never more than 30 seconds......My new B-2910....I use preheater just like I have always done on older tractor...starts in about the same time.....I would never start without preheating....unless tractor is warm.....
Another thing here is WARM UP time....I never start cutting, which is what I mainly use my tractors for, without warming up at least 5 minutes.....over 90% of engine wear occurs in the first few minutes of engine cold start.....And like I have said here many times my old 8200 has 3 or 4 thousand hours on it.....I lost count of the times the hour meter has turned over!!!! I just had it serviced and they did a compresion test on it and they said that the results were within the range of an engine that had about 1000 hrs on it....
I also warm up my mowing decks....after tractor has warmed up for 5 minutes.....I run deck at very low speed for about 1 minute.....to warm up moving parts and belt.....
when I finish cutting I also cool off tractor and use a leaf blower to clear grass out of radiator screen.....I know this is the reason I had been so lucky with my tractors......
The 8200 has never had anything done it except regular maintenance....except for hour meter cables....I have had to replace the cable to the hr. meter at least 5 times....sometimes running it several hundered hours before changing the darn thing.....ther is no telling how many hours I really have on the thing.....but many more than it shows..... ....

My 1976 L175 requires the glow plugs on a 95 degree day and a 30 degree day. It won't start without 30 seconds of preheat period. Once it has been running, it will start up until a couple of hours later without preheating unless it's cold out.
My bx2200 on the other hand seems to be dumping fuel in while the key is on and the glow plug selector is engauged. This starts with no glow plug prewarm in the summer. I just got it and haven't used it in the winter but the book says only a few seconds is enough. ....

Used mine all last winter for snowblowing, stored in a garage, at it's coldest an easy count of one-thoussand, two-thousand, three-thousand was all it took on the pre-heat to start.

both my old b6000e and my 8200 require the glow plugs to get them to fire up even after hard use on a summer day. engine on the 8200 has great compression but for whatever reason I need to hit the pulgs even if it's just for a few seconds. ....
